BEACHY GOODNESS

Lately I've been finding myself drawn to beachy, relaxed interiors - it may have something to do with it being summer or my new found love for the beach (I have seriously gone more in the last month than in probably the last 5 years!). But it's got me appreciating the laid-back effortless look.

HEY, WHOS THAT FRAUD?

I've been listening to a lot of podcasts the last few days, mainly by Jaharn Giles from Your Creative Start. She interviews creatives from all fields and talks about their business, how they started and their advice for creatives.

THE SIDE HUSTLE 2.0

I did a post about 18 months ago called 'The Side Hustle' talking about why I chose to study and start my blog on top of working full-time. The funny thing is that I got so used to having a 'side-hustle' that I feel weird or lazy if I don't have a side project (or multiple) going at once.

HOUSE CRUSH: COS INTERIORS

Warehouse conversions are right on the top of my wish list. So many possibilities with the open layout, so many windows, so much natural light, exposed structure - wood, steel, concrete. Oh, the list goes on.

I found this insane conversion by Cos Interiors in Fitzroy, Melbourne and had to share - I mean look at it!!! The mixture of materials in here is an absolute dream and the black framed glass is calling my name.

GETTING PERSONAL

Disclaimer: This post has nothing to do with Interiors!

Today's blogpost is a something a little different and certainly not something you may expect to find on an interiors blog, but as this is my platform I've decided to share something quite personal to me as I always like to read about peoples experiences that are similar too mine, so perhaps a few of you can relate.

BREATHE EASY

Lately I have been finding myself drawn to images of calming interiors. By all means calming does not have to mean boring or plain! Gone are the times of calming interiors being only whites, creams and soft fabrics.

THE HOME OF STEVEN & CAROLE WHITING

While scrolling through Instagram and blogs as I do on any day, I came across this masterpiece.

This is the Melbourne home of Whiting Architects’ Steven and Carole Whiting. For me personally it ticks every box I could think of, extremely functional, modern, cosy, simple and clean with unmistakeable touches of personality and style.

“It is not about making a massive statement,” Carole says. “It is, however, about finding the balance between simplicity and warmth and creating a sense of home.”

BE BRAVE

COLOUR.

It can be a little daunting. I myself, have been quite conservative on colour in my own interior choices, mostly sticking with a calming palette of blues, greys, white and black. And while I do love this relaxed vibe, I often find myself looking at more colourful interiors thinking 'I wish I could do that'.

I went to the Styling 101 workshop with Julia Green at The Design School in Melbourne and she asked us what we thought neutral colours were. We all said tans, beige, cream etc. If any of you have seen Julia's work, you'll know that she's a big fan of colour, she said to her the most staple neutral colour is a blue/teal. It got me thinking how subjective colour is and how interesting and layered a space can be with a combination of colours, not to mention the amount of subconscious feeling different colours can invoke in people!

INSPIRATION?

Anyone who knows the slightest thing about me knows that I bloody love a good inspirational quote!

I can't say exactly why, I think it's finding something that reflects exactly what I'm feeling or the encouragement I need to hear is reassuring to me. It's like a confirmation that I'm not crazy (questionable? ha!)

I share a lot of quote on my Instagram, and to be honest most of them are just what I need to hear on that day. I figure if I appreciate it and it inspires me to get my A into G, then someone else may need to hear it too?

Or not. Either way is ok with me!

LIVING SMALL

The reality for most of us who enjoy inner-city living these days is that spaces are getting smaller and smaller. While there are still those who choose to live further away in order for the budget to stretch further, some of us just can't give up being able to walk right out into the hustle and bustle and have the all important morning coffee basically on our doorstep!

Anyone who has been to Hong Kong knows that some of the apartments there, really take compact living to the next level. One couple, decided to renovate their two bedroom 33 square-meter apartment to become a bright and flexible living space. To do this, they actually did-away with the second bedroom and installed some insanely practical and sleek cabinetry.

HOUSE CRUSH

I saw this house while deep diving on Instagram and LOVED the relaxed and organic look of it. The fitout and styling of it is in keeping with the style of the building with modern elements added. Nothing ticks boxes more for me than a well executed renovation that respects the original building while bringing it into current times!

SUPER FRONT

After seeing amazing cabinetry on various Swedish Instagram's for quite some time, I have finally found their source and I can't believe it.

The manufacturer is Super Front They are a Swedish company that design and manufacture fronts, tops, sides, handles and feet to fit IKEA furniture - Including kitchens. Say it with me.. Genius!!

The fronts come in a variety of simple and chic patterns and the colour options are beautiful and refined, as Swedish design always is. This with the handle and feet options allow you to create truly unique pieces suited to your taste at a fraction of the price of custom.

STUDIO DAVID THULSTRUP: PETER'S HOUSE

After coming across the amazing bedroom with it's thick oak panelling and tonal colour palette in 'Peter's House' a few days ago on Instagram I found the talented creators behind stunning bedroom - Studio David Thulstrup. An architecture, interior and design practice based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The private residence was commission by photographer, Peter Krasilnikoff. "The design is focused around a central mirror-clad atrium, which floods all three floors of the residence with natural light. The atrium is lush with specially selected grasses, plants and a feature tree which is visible from all floors - creating a central and bright oasis."

FRAMED

Matte black is most certainly having its moment in the spotlight, whether its tap-ware or home accessories we can't seem to get enough of it!

I am always looking for ideas for when I eventually build/design my own home and black panelled windows are at the forefront of my mind. They are the ideal divider between rooms in small spaces as they don't visually divide the space or block any light, in larger spaces they provide a feeling of grandness. They give a hint of industrialism but with a more modern and clean edge.

SMALL SPACES

The general feeling may be that the bigger the better when it comes to our homes, but these apartments prove that the size of your home doesn't have to limit the feeling or style.

What these apartments lack in size they make up for in personality!
